Last Minute FG Lifts Bluejays

Peterseburg - On a rain-soaked, sloppy night, Elmwood/Brimfield and Petersburg-PORTA took to the field as #1 and #2 in the Prairieland, respectively. The game lived up to it's billing, with hard hits, big plays, and drama throughout.

PORTA took the early lead, marching down the field, lead mostly by a tandem of fullbacks. Following an E/B fumble, PORTA then capitalized on a short-field opportunity, scoring again to make it 14-0.

E/B then put together a drive of their own to make it 14-7. Momentum seemed to have shifted in the Trojans favor following a blocked punt, but a mixture of good defensive play by the Bluejays and miscues by the Trojans resulted in a turnover on downs.

On PORTA's next play from scrimmage they ran a sweep for 75 yards, adding to their lead of 21-7. E/B answered to make it 21-14. A battle for field position ensued, with the E/B defense holding the Bluejays, who had to punt for a touchback.

E/B scored two plays later on a 53 yard, across the field and back scamper. The Trojans went for two and were successful, taking the lead for the first time 22-21 with just over 2:00 to play in the game. PORTA drove to the Trojans 24 yard line, and on 4th and 6 kicked a field goal with :34 to play to win the game.

E/B (5-1) plays Peoria Heights (2-4) this week. PORTA (5-1) plays Havana (0-6).
