1A State Finals vs.Freeport (Aquin)
11/25/2005

Cambridge's Casey Happach looks to have scored on an 11 yard run. But the play was ruled down at the 1. Eric Leander scored on the next play, putting Cambridge up 22-14.

First Loss A Tough One

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - The Vikings put together one of the longest drives, of the state finals weekend, but were stopped on the Aquin 24 yard line on 4th & 12 with 3:38 left in the game.

All was looking dismal for the mohawk wearing Cambridge players as the Aquin offense had come alive in the 3rd quarter scoring 16 points. Tying the game at 22 a piece then scoring again and converting a 2 point conversion to put the Vikings down 30-28 to start the 4th.

However on the very first play from scrimmage, the Bulldogs would fumble and Cambridge's Blake Spivey would recover on the 21 yard line, giving the Vikings new life.

Aquin would hold the Vikings on the next 4 downs, forcing a turnover on downs when Kyle Lehnard & Mike Beckman stopped Happach on a 2 yard run on 4th & 4.

With a 1:48 left to play Cambridge still had some hope with one timeout left, but after stopping the Bulldogs twice, Aquin's Matt Marini would find a hole and run 13 yards for a 1st down and the game.

Marini had been a thorn in the side of the Vikings all day his 131 yards & 3 TDs kept the defense playing a balanced game and unable to put to much pressure on QB Adam Jelinek, who was 15 of 24 for 227 yards passing with 1 TD & 1 Int.

Throughout the game Casey Happach would help get the Vikings to with in striking distance of the goal, runs of 34 & 29 put the Vikings within yards of the redzone and would both lead to touchdowns.

Happach who had 99 yards in the first half, finished the game with 154 yards on 25 carries with no TDs. Eric Leander punched it in for six points 3 different times, but rushed for 60 yards, Kyle Morey finished with 37 on 9 carries.

Shane Lindberg hooked up with Tyler Horberg for a 4 yard pass to give Cambridge their final score of the game which would put them up by 6 towards the end of the 3rd.
