Week #4 vs.Oak Park (Fenwick)
9/18/2005

The Friar fans cheered late in the first quarter as the announcer called out the half time score of the Bears game at Soldier Field.  Little did they know that the game they were watching would have a similar end to the first half.

Fenwick came out strong and early against Hales Franciscan, scoring 13 points in the first quarter.  Seven of them came off a perfectly executed play action pass by quarterback Brien Rooney.  Rooney would have to leave the game in the second quarter with a hip injury, but did manage to go 10-14 for 119 yards and a touchdown before giving way to sophomore Mike Androwich.  Fenwick was also able to pound Hales’ defensive line as junior running back Kendrick Crump scored three touchdowns giving the Friars a 31-0 halftime lead and the eventual 51-0 final score.

Defense and special teams also played a huge role for both sides.  The Friar defense dominated by only allowing 77 total yards and chasing Hales’ quarterback Chris Peoples all over the field for most of the day.  The Friar’s kicking team also kept the Spartans deep in their own territory the whole game.  Hales lack of a kicker forced them to go for it on fourth downs, giving Fenwick excellent field position on every possession.

No word on the extent of the injury to Rooney, as Fenwick prepares to play Brother Rice on Sunday.  Hales Franciscan plays St. Laurence Friday night.
