Chris Hebert rushed for two rushing touchdowns through his first 8 games, but found the end zone three times on Friday night and the Mustangs finished its season on a high note with a 30-7 victory over Lakes in a North Suburban crossover in Lake Villa.
The Mustangs quarterback Hebert (13 carries, 79 yards) scored on runs of 3, 7 and 12 yards and Mundelein (2-7) also rolled out a season best 396 yards on the ground out of 485 total yards.
"It's the first time to do it and in my last game of my senior year," Hebert said. "I knew we could come out and run against them. I just got some great blocking and some great runs at the right time."
Senior Josh McKindra (7 carries, 40 yards) also scored on a 5-yard run and junior Brian Arnold broke a 27-yard touchdown run.
Conditions on the field made it a bit sloppy and the all the Mustangs wanted to do was run, run and run.
Also, senior running backs, Ryan Olson broke the century-mark with 12 carries, 105 yards and Wade Leppert had 18 carries, 87 yards.
"With the field conditions the way it was, we wanted to use our bread and butter," Mundelein coach Dave Whitson said. "We also wanted to send the team out on a high note. We had to take care of the football.
"It was a good way to finish strong winning two out of our last three games."
Lakes only score came with 4:44 remaining in the opening quarter and it gave the Eagles a brief 7-6 advantage.
Ted Bariamis caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Richard Fisher (10 of 22 for 124 yards).
The Mustangs ran off 24 unanswered points the rest of the way and held the Eagles to 32 yards on the ground and a total of 156 yards.
"We got our (butts) kicked and they (Mundelein) beat us." Lakes coach Luke Mertens said. "They kicked our butts up and down the field.
"We better have a very short memory, this game is over and done. We've got to come out and play next week."
Lakes (6-3) with the loss still clinched its first-ever playoff spot last week and will likely open up on the road next weekend.
