Week #4 vs. Rockford
(Boylan)(4-0)
Bucs Score Twice on D, as Boylan Goes 4-0 Rockford (Boylan H.S.) - Belvidere's Josh Fowler could still be up for player of the week nominations, even though his Belvidere team lost Friday night's match up with conference rivals Boylan, 28-19. Fowler (LB 5'10 215 sr.), scored twice for the Bucs, once on a 35 yard reception and again on a 65 yard run. While that normally wouldn't get you listed with the best in the state, it does when you were on defense and the pass was from Boylan's Jake Smolinski (QB 6' 185 sr.) and the run was on a fumble recovery with 4:32 left in the game. helping bring the Bucs within 2 points after a PAT kick. Unfortunately Fowler or the Bucs couldn't help out the offense anymore than they already did and then Boylan's Dan Dansdill (5'10 180 jr) busted through the line for a 33 yard run with 1:46 left to play, shutting down just about any chance of a Bucs comeback. Olijuwon Davis (RB 5'9 188 sr.) started the scoring for Boylan, with a 37 yard run 3 minutes into the 1st quarter. Belvidere answered back in the 2nd quarter with it's only offensive score of the day. capping off a punishing drive that had fullback Cory Radke (5'11 210 sr) butting heads with the Boylan D-line on 3 downs at the 1 yard line before getting in. Big runs by Adam Wells HB 5'7 160 sr.) & Steve Golubski (QB 6'2 180 sr) helped get the Bucs into the redzone on that scoring drive, but the outstanding play of the Boylan defense, lead by Michael Bedin (who had 3 sacks) and Patrick Appino (LB/TE 6'2 212 jr.), were part of the reasons why the Titans had only given up 7 points before tonight's game and it showed as Belvidere had trouble repeating it's scoring drive. Appino, had Boylan's 2nd score of the night on a 5 yard TD reception from Smolinski. Smolinski, would run the ball himself for their 3rd score of the night with 4:40 left in the 3rd. A fake extra point kick would have Chuck Gille run in a 2 point conversion that would give the Titans a 2 score lead. Boylan head coach Dan Appino had noticed that the Bucs seemed a little to aggressive on the edge and was hoping to take advantage of it when he called the fake. "I was shocked that he ran the ball. I thought we had one guy open, but he saw a lot of green" commenting on the importance of that play towards the outcome of the game. by Vincent Johnson
