Bloomington (Hancock Stadium) - Bloomington Central Catholic (ranked #3 in 4A) got off to a slow start Friday night at the Intercity Doubleheader against University High School. Early injuries during the first quarter led to a 0-0 deadlock after one quarter. A rushing touchdown by Ryan Waldron got Central Catholic on the scoreboard during the second quarter to put Central Catholic ahead at halftime, 7-0.
Early in the third quarter U-High's junior RB Caleb Katz completed a 27 yard run to make the score Central Catholic 7, U-High 6, with a failed extra point attempt. Two touchdown passes, one to Javier Safford in the third quarter, and one to Dan Curran in the fourth made for the final tally.
University High had 538 yds rushing last week against Olympia, but could only muster 47 yards rushing and 113 overall against Central Catholic's penetrating defense. Central Catholic accomplished 14 tackles for a loss and sacked U-High quarterback T.J. Smith three times.
Central Catholic's aerial attack resulted in 154 yards passing and 70 rushing for a net total of 224 yards gained for the evening.
