Turnover, Dropped Passes Doom Marist

Chicago (Hnason Stadium) - In a thrilling showdown between two evenly matched teams last Friday night at Hanson Stadium, the St. Patrick Shamrocks barely squeaked by the Marist Redhawks. The game was filled with twists and turns and kept everyone on the edges of their seats from the opening kickoff until the final buzzer.

Down 21 to 14 with just under a minute left in the game, The Redhawks recieved a fair catch on their own 19 yard line. After Marist QB, Scott Slubowski ( 7/15/150 yds, 2 TDs and 1 INT,) was forced by an onslaught of Shamrock linemen to rifle the ball out of bounds, he threw two long passes of 22 and 39 yards to #88 Aaron Moody ( 2 catches for 61 yards) to bring them
withing striking distance with 41 seconds to go. After calling a timeout, the rifle armed QB threw four consecutive for sure touchdown passes that were dropped in the end zone. Two of those drops were committed by Moody.

Marist struck first as Slubowski capped a 12 play, 56 yard drive with a 31 yard TD strike to #1 Jeremy Nash ( 2 catches, 55 yards, 2 TDs) with 6:06 left to play in the first quarter. After that, the Shamrock defense tightened up and didn't give them much of anything else for the rest of the game as they held the Redhawks to 294 total yards for the game and forced three turnovers. Two of those turnovers were converted into Shamrock touchdowns.

After the Marist TD, the Shamrocks struck right back when #5, Tom Barrett ( 13/23/141 yds, 2 TDs) marched his offense down the field and threw a 12 yard pass to #23, Paul Lombardi ( 4 catches, 77 yards and 2 TDs.)

Defensively, the Redhawk offensive line was unable to stop #51, Brandon Kreczmer, who had a monster game by recording 16 tackles, 5 sacks, 13 hurries and a forced fumble. It got so bad for the Redhawk offense that they just plain stopped running plays to the right side of the Shamrock defense half way through the first quarter. In the 4th quarter, Kreczmer sacked Slubowski twice and hurried him on five consecutive plays as the Redhawk offense failed to at least put somone in front of him to stop his momentum.

St. Pats built went up after Slubowski was intercepted by #46, Jeff Costa ( 6 tackles,1 INT, 1 sack,) at their own 20 yard line on the last play of the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Barret threw another 12 yard TD strike to Lombardi. In the third, the Shamrocks tacked on another 6 points when Barret ran in in himself on a broken play for a five yard TD.

Marist brought it back to within a touchdown with 2:03 left in the third when Slubowski threw another TD pass to Jeremy Nash, that time for 24 yards.

Marist's defense was led by Costa and #17, Justin Janus who also recorded six tackles.
