A new era of Sherrard football kicked off on Friday night as the Sherrard Tigers now under the leadership of Jason Kirby took to the field against the Kewanee Boilermakers. The game did not start out well for the Tigers as the Boilermakers took their opening possession and marched it down the field on a 67 yard 15 play series capped off with a Josh Dearing 1 yard TD run to make the score 6-0.
Sherrard finally pulled even later on a 16 yard TD pass from Tiger QB Branden Bowden to WR Tyson McCreight. ( Tiger fans were wondering where was that the past 4-5 years) The PAT failed and the score was tied 6-6. It did not last long as Kewanee scored on a 69 yard TD pass to make it 12-6.
Sherrard gained the lead midway through the second as this time RB Jeremy Smith took a pass from the flat and ran 45 yards for the TD and the 2 point try was good with the Tigers up 14-12. With the next kickoff-Kewanee's Josh Dearing raced 71 yards and capped off the drive with a 1 yd TD run. The Tigers got intercepted before half and Kewanee did not relax Dearing busted loose for a huge run and a touchdown before half made the score 24-14.
Sherrard scored on the first possession of the first half to make the score now 24-20 in favor of Kewanee. But the Kewanee defense got stingy and they ran behind the great RB Josh Dearing who ended the night with 148 yds rushing and three TD's. The final score Kewanee 32 Sherrard 20.
