Week #7 vs.Hinsdale (Central)(7-0)
Grzelakowski Impossible to Say or Stop Western Springs (Bennett Field) - A lot had been made going into Friday nights game about stopping Central quarterback Brad Bower. The question Lyons Township might be asking is, should we have been more worried about running back Brian Grzelakowski? Grzelakowski put together a few pieces for his highlight clip against Lyons as he racked up 3 touchdowns & 329 yards rushing. With TD runs of 10, 50 & 71. Grzelakowski, a 6 foot 200 pound senior who also played on defense as a safety, gained most of his yards on his second efforts. The Devils came out running on their first drive, as Grzelakowski bolted for a 50 yard TD that was called back on a penalty. Bower would connect with his towering tight end Trey Koziol (6'5", 237 lbs) for a 12 yard touchdown reception with 7 minutes to go in the first. Grzelakowski, would get his first score of the game on the Devils second drive of the night. After Lyons punted the Devils drove down field to the 10 where Grzelakowski scampered in for a score. The game would go into half-time 14-0 Hinsdale, as neither team would reach the endzone, thanks mostly to the defensive play of both teams. Steve Pilcher, Hunte Six & Brian Griffin each had a sack or two for Central, while Andrew Whitelaw of Central & Mike Grisko of Lyons both had interceptions in the first half. Defense didn't take a back seat in the second half, but players such as Lyons quarterback Chris Farnsworth, doing his best Brian Grzelakowski impersonation, rarely went down on the first tackle when he was running. Lyons running back Brian Davis also became a threat once he got loose out of the backfield. Either on one of his pass receptions or on the 30 yard run he blasted through the middle then untouched into the endzone giving Lyons their first score, putting them in within seven with 7:02 left in the third. Hinsdale answered right back when after a great kick return the Devils would hand the ball off to Grzelakowski on 1st & 10 for a 50 yard TD run with 6:41 left in the third. Bowers would top off the third quarter with a 37 yard run of his own with 3:11 left. Lyons fans had to feel like the game was about to turn their way as the Lions capped off a drive at the end of the third, with a TD to start the fourth quarter & a onside kick recovered. But a 55 yard TD pass from Farnsworth to Davis would be called back. Only to have a delay of game penalty on the next play to push a Lyons first & 10 from their 45 to their 25. The overflow crowd of LT faithful started to depart with just under 6 minutes left in the game as they watched Grzelakowski breakaway for his third TD, a 71 yard run.
