2nd Round 2A Playoffs vs.Sterling (Newman Central Catholic)10-1
11/6/2004

North Boone's Zeke Markshausen breaks away on a kick return.

Comets Slam Into North Boone

Poplar Grove (Pine Tree Field) - While there may be no physical evidence of Comets smashing into the turf at North Boone High School, there was however evidence on the scoreboard of the lopsided game.

Newman Central scored on all 5 of it's first possessions, to go into the half up 35-0. It took the Comets a little longer to get the score keepers to implement the running clock though, as Chris Salbatori (QB 6' 185 sr.) would their first TD of the 2nd half & last of the game on an 17 yard run, putting the game all but out of reach with 2:17 left in the third quarter.

Sophomore running back Bryce Hannan (5'2 120) would start of the scoring for the Comets, as he capped off their first drive with a 1 yard plunged into the endzone. The Comets converted on that 2 point try as they did on all but their second score.

Back Clayton Norberg (6'1 200 sr.) pull off the hat trick as he scored Newman's 2nd through 4th TDs, on runs of 2, 11 & 78.

North Boone gained little ground against the Newman defense. Josh Doetch (QB 5'10 150 jr.) had problems getting time to find his receivers as Newman's Charlie McGinn (DL 6'3 225 sr.) & Nate Troye (DL 5'11 175 sr.) found their way into the Viking backfield on passes as well as the run.

The Vikings best chance for a rally was late in the first. Down only 14-0 the Vikings had put together a drive on their previous possession before punting and were looking to build of their previous momentum, but on 1st & 10 on their 25 they lost the ball on a fumble on the 26. Newman would take the ball with 43 second left in the first and score 30 seconds into the 2nd quarter. Putting them up 22-0.

North Boone's lone TD game late in the game as Zeke Markshausen (WR 6' 170 sr.) caught a pass and eluded defenders down field into the red zone of Sterling, before catching another pass in the back of the endzone with 2:32 left to play.
