Week #5 vs.Chicago (Mt. Carmel)(5-0)
9/22/2001

Daniel Hillen gets off a pass while under pressure from the Caravan defense.

Caravan D to Much for Friars

Chicago, South Side (Gately Stadium) - Mt. Carmel & Fenwick both came into Saturday's game undefeated and both have had upset victories so far this season. The Caravan defense made sure they didn't fall victim to one themselves this evening.

Fenwick had knocked off a 4A top ranked Lombard (Montini) , plus Big 30 rankedWilmette (Loyola Academy)earlier this season, to march into the seasons mid point 4-0 and facing #2 ranked Mt. Carmel who had pushed #1 rankedJoliet (Catholic)of the top of the hill in week #2. Fenwick brought along a large cheering section to boot, but Caravan linebackers Tom Treadway & Niall Campbell weren't about to hear that in their house.

The ball started to bounce for the Caravan right off the bat. A short kickoff set up a speedy recovery by Caravan special team's Brett Barnes. MC's first drive would end on a 4th down turnover as would the next two possessions for both teams as a defensive battle was beginning to emerge.

Campbell & Treadway, work the Fenwick offense, while Robert Tamillow, Kevin Newman & Lenny DePasquale battled with the Caravan offense. Greg Owens would register the only touchdown of the half, off of a 3 yard run. To put the Caravan up 7-0 at the half. Fenwick would attempt a 37 yard field goal, but the kick fell short.

John Mulchrone & Tom Brown would open up the lead in the third as the both had rushing TDs to help put them up 21-0. Brown would score once more midway through the 4th quarter.

Kevin Quinn would score the only Friars points of the game on a 5 yard run that was set up by a long smash mouth run up the middle by Tamillow.
