Week #6 vs. Spring Valley
(Hall) 5-1
Hubs Rush Ahead, Then Go Flat Spring Valley (Richard Nesti Stadium) - Most coaches would be happy holding on to win a game 24-14 after going up 24-6 at the half and having their star back put up 101 yards & two touchdowns, but most coaches haven't seen great seasons end so close to their goals like Kevin Crandall. "We went in, it's 24-6. I think we came out [from the half] and didn't play with much intensity." Crandall said. While the 6th ranked Hubs got the win, things looked a bit rocky at the start off the game. The Red Devils looked like they might be following the trend of upsets as senior Tom Caldera (6'2 185) sprinted down field for 58 yards on the first play from scrimmage to put Hall on the 7 yard line. Senior Colton DeBlois (QB 5'11 145) would scamper in for a 6 yard TD 3 plays later to put Hall up six nothing just under 2 minutes into the game. The Hubs not looking to have their 27 game NCIC (Southwest) conference win streak broken, hustled down field on 6 plays that ended on a Dusty Provow (jr RB 5'9 160) TD with 7:32 left in the first. The rest of the half would be all Hubs as senior Justin Johnson (RB 5'10 160) and Provow put up some big numbers in the first half along with senior Adam Erickson (5'11 160), who became the favorite target of junior QB Mark Allamang (6' 170). Provow, who Crandall said "has been a work horse for us all year", rushed for 101 yards & 2 TDs on 7 carries by halftime. Allamang had connected with Erickson on 2 passes for 31 & 39 both leading to TDs. Provow would finish the game with 149 yards on 15 carries & 2 TDs. Allamang's 2 TDs to Erickson would be his only completions as he passed 2 for 5 with 2 interceptions. Crandall's disappointment in the second half centered around the offensive line, "Not taking anything away from [coach Gary Vicini's] team... in the second half we just didn't execute". part of the lack of execution may have something to do with the second half effort of the Hall defense. Jeremy Sawicki (jr LB 6'3 160) was causing trouble in the Hubs backfield late in the game. Another reason may have been Zach DeArcos (sr.DB 6'2 178) who had several tackles as well as one of the two interceptions off Allamang. Two way starter Mike Bertalot (sr RB/LB 5'11 185) had the other pick for the Red Devils. Hall's second TD would come to little to late, as the would put together a 99 yard drive with 5:20 left. Scoring on a 6 yard pass to Caldera. by Vincent Johnson
