Week #1 Addison
Work In Progress
Addison - Phil Pedi had a solid night, the senior QB went 14 of 28 with 2 touchdowns as he passed for 279 yards in the Highlanders' season opener against last year's 5A Runner-up Alleman.
Pedi did get picked off in the 2nd quart by Alleman's Charlie Mack, on a pass that was tipped. It was plays like that that had Driscoll head coach Mike Burzawa, admit that there are things the Highlanders will need to improve on if they plan on making it to their 6th straight state final.
"Our special teams are solid, our run game needs a lot of improvement... we had problems with our communication and that took some of our momentum away." Burzawa added, in reference to the fact the team had almost a dozen penalties on the night.
The game started out late, around 8 pm, but the Highlanders came out fast. Scoring on the game's first possession with a 5 yard pass to Chris Nickola. A play that was set up by 36 yard reception by David Schwabe a play earlier.
Both teams looked a little sluggish as they battled back and fourth on defense forcing the other team to punt. Alleman started to get a lot of pressure on Pedi and the backfield of Driscoll after Driscoll's first drive.
The Highlanders stripped the ball from Alleman's Eric Jackson and recovered at their own 35 yard line. That would start of a drive that would last just over 4 minutes and see Pedi connect for his second touchdown of the day on a 15 yard pass to Matt Tremback.
Driscoll would hold tight on defense, for most of the game, slipping only on a short drive that Alleman started at the Driscoll 45 yard line and ended with a Kevin Hodge TD run for 15 yards.
Kevin Palermo (LB 6'2 230 jr.) & Matt Fields (DL 5'11 190 sr.) both came up big on several plays for the Highlanders, to help them maintain their lead.
