Cyclones Make Their Home(coming) In The Endzone
Springfield (Memorial Field) - S.H.G. jumped out to a 23-0 lead and never looked back, as upset minded Springfield High was unable to stop the Cyclone offense.
SHG started the day off with a 1 yard rush by JT Wise. Finishing off the first quarter with a 36 yard field goal by Brian Sheehan (1-1 for the day) giving SHG a 10-0 lead.
Wise plowed into the endzone again in the 2nd on a 2 yard run at the 9:17 mark, but SHG failed on the extra point. The Cyclone would come back twice more in the quarter to score. Once on a screen pass to Jon Sundquist who threw a halfback pass into the endzone for a TD and again on a 48 yard reception by Matt Brewer. Brewer, who caught the pass about 10-15 yards past the line of scrimmage worked his way out of two would-be tacklers to make his way into the endzone.
The Cyclone did all they could to stop SHS's all-around star Ulexis Williams from scoring and did just that, but a 44 yard pass from Mike Jasinski to DeWayne Shambley would stop the Cyclone's D from getting their third shut out of the year.
The Cyclone made a drive with time dwindling down in the the 2nd, but a Sheehan field goal from 38 yards would fall short. The Cyclone rounded off their offensive barrage with a 35 reception by wideout Jon Allotey and a 4 yard run by fullback Nick Kulek.
The Cyclone face what should be fairly easy opponents in Jacksonville H.S. (0-5) & Lincoln (1-4) after a week 5 victory over Jacksonville.
