Estimated crowd that turned out Saturday at Soldier Field to watch Joliet (Catholic) take onChicago (Mt. Carmel)in the first game of a triple header of Chicago Public league & Catholic League schools. While it was just a drop in the bucket of the potential 64,000 that can cram into the stadium, they've were all able to witness an exciting game that seen the 12 time state champs Joliet Catholic fall in the 4th quarter to the 10 time state champs Mt. Carmel.
Number of losses by teams in IHSFW's BIG 30 Rankings. While 4 of those teams may have an excuse, Joliet (Catholic), Chicago (Hubbard),Barrington& Park Ridge
(Maine South) all lost to teams ranked in the BIG 30 or on a national ranking, the other 7 may have surpassed the record for most teams to lose while being ranked in the regular season. Look for a dramatic change in the rankings for week #2.
Number of yards Sean Dunning ofDecatur (St. Teresa)
rushed for in the first game of his senior season. While this might seem like a lot it's nothing compared with the 416 yards he rushed for when he was the IHSFW Player of Week #6 in 2005. Dunning set the state mark for yards rushed in a single season with 3,127 yards in 12 games last year. With the 214 it won't be long before he's knocking on the door of the state all time mark of 7,363 which was set last year by Henry Deters of Tolono
