Former Chicago (St. Rita) Star, Cut By Bears

Chicago - The Chicago Bears announced yesterday that along with several other players, wide receiver and St. Rita graduate, Ahmad Merritt, did not make the seasons final cut.

Merritt, who would be in his fourth year as an NFLer & Bear was mainly used as a special teams return man, was beat out on the return spot by Daryl Jones.

Merritt had seen very limited playing time at wideout, but boasted a 22.1 kick return average in his three playing years with the Bears, as well as leading the NFL preseason this year for all kick returners.

Merritt had started in only games at wide receiver and had a combined three year total of 19 receptions for 170 yards and no TDs.

There is no word on Merritt possibly playing elsewhere in the NFL at this time.
