Late Rally Not Enough
Chicago (Lane Stadium) - The Indians of Lane Tech have the most playoff appearances by any Chicago public team, but have failed to secure a 2nd round bid since the '91 season, coming into Saturday's game with their best record since '92 (8-1), Lane was hoping that would change.
After a slow start and some and some mental mistakes, Lane looked like it might just pull out a victory from the upset minded Eagles of Orland Park (Sandburg).
Unfortunately all hopes of tying the game up fell short as a Ross McClane pass would land in front of any open receiver on 4th and 7 with 1:47 left in the game.
Gideon Akande did just about all he could against a tough Eagles defense. He lead all Indian rusher with 67 yards and the only two Lane Tech TD's of the game. McClane was 12 for 22 with 99 yards a & 2 interception.
Lane's defense played hard against the Sandburg also. They allowed only one play over 14 yards and that was a Rick Kozak to Wale Dada pass for 29 yards. Jacob Nokes also picked off a Kozak pass.
Offensively Ken Bates had a big run of 25 & sophomore Mark Barnhart showed promise with 4 rushes for 17& 4 reception for 14 . Tim Nierman caught 3 for 35 & Edward Porrata caught 2 for 39.
