(Chicago, IL, Lane Stadium)Alumni day at Lane always brings out a big fan turn out. There was a special Alumni only section in the Lane stands filled with alumni and their family from all years. Also, the football class of 1976 and 1986 were commemorated in half time in a very emotional setting. Halftime featured a ceremony where the Alumni formed a line in the middle of the field and shook hands of every current Lane player and staff.
Apparently, the festive environment worked, as the alumni helped inspire Lane’s players to a 36-12 drubbing over Mather. This game featured the first time junior Christopher Blackmon played extensive time at running back. He definitely took advantage of his surprise playing time as he racked up 134 yards on 14 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns. Lane Tech running back William Moorehead also had a big game as he ran for 92 yard and 2 touchdowns.
Mather scored on two big plays. The first was a 60 yard run by quarterback Donald Wiezernal and the second on a 95 yard touchdown run by junior Dave Babatunae.
With the victory, Lane stops what was most likely the all time Lane losing streak of 5 games. Lane had lost the last two games to end the season last year to Dunbar and Warren and then lost the first three games of this season to Lockport, Evanston, and Simeon. Lane (3-1, 1-0) plays new Illini-Red Bird member Taft next Friday at 3:30pm at Winnemac stadium.
