Week #5 vs. Mascoutah
Jersey Posts Shut Out, Goes 2-0 in Conference Jerseyville (Snyder Sports Complex )- It was a festive atmosphere at Snyders Sports Comlex in Jerseyville on Friday night, as the Panthers defeated the Mascoutah Indians 52-0. Jerseyville improved to 2-3, much to the delight of the large homecoming crowd. For the second week the Panther's used an improving offensive line to control their ground game, and 6 Mascoutah turnovers to improve to 2-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Sophomore standout Trent Griffith led all Panther rushers with 109 yards, while RB Ben Bishop ran for 101. Jerseyville gained a total of 303 yards rushing, while QB Caleb Williams was 3 for 5 for 55 yards. Jerseyville wasted no time in the first quarter scoring 21 points in less then three minutes. Ben Bishop got things started for the Panther's with a 3 yard run and place kicker Zac Taake's PAT was good making it 7-0. The Panther defense got its chance to shine next, Josh Vanousdoll picked off a C.J. Webb pass and marched 34 yards and a Jerseyville 14-0 lead. The Panther's made it 21-0 when Bishop scored his second touchdown of the night this time from 15 yards out. The success of Jerseyville's defensive line in putting pressure on Indian QB Webb enabled the Panther offense to score again in the second quarter . First, QB Caleb Williams scored from 5 yards out on a keeper, followed by Bishop's third touchdown of the half, by way of a 13 yard romp. Bishop also intercepted and Indian pass ending a Mascoutah drive late in the first half. The Panther's sailed along in the second
half taking advantage of 2 Indian fumbles that resulted in a 21 yard field
goal by Zac Taake and a 4 yard run by Trent Griffith. Griffith also provided
the game with its most exciting play as he raced 90 yards for his second
score of the night and a The Panther's continue their dominant play in the Mississippi Valley, by crushing the Indians and winning their 26th straight conference game. Next week Jersey will try to even its record in Highland where they will take on the 2-3 Bulldogs. Tonight's Panther MVP was RB Ben Bishop who rushed for 102 with 3 touchdowns, he also had an interception that he returned for 40 yards.
