Jerseyville ( Schneider Stadium) - It was nail biting time in Jerseyville, where Jerseyville fans were treated to a tight game with good defense on both sides, as the Panthers held on to beat the underrated Warriors of Granite City 14-12.

Granite City scored on the opening drive of the game that took nearly the entire first qtr. The Warriors had a lot of success keeping the ball on the ground, with RB Brian Beyrau doing most of the damage. Granite City missed the 2 point conversion and had to settle for a 6-0 lead. the score stood until Jerseyville's second string QB Joey Kallal came in with less then 2 minutes to go in the first half and marched the Panthers to a 7-6 half time lead, mainly through the air.

The second half was more of a defensive struggle, with Jerseyville scoring first on a TD gallop by QB Brett Hawkins. That lead held up until the final qrt. when Granite City again struck quickly on the ground with the combination of Franko/Beyrau doing most of the work. However with the score 14-12 the Warriors once again tried to go for the 2 point conversion to tie things up, but failed by inches to put the ball over.

Granite City got a break on the following kick off when Panther Greg Madsen fumbled the ball back over to the Warriors, who regained possession in Panther territory. But the game saving play was made on a big interception by none other then Greg Madsen who then rambled 40 yards to secure another Jerseyville win.

As usual the place was packed and the team did not disappoint, winning their 19th straight regular season game. The Panthers will be home next week to face the Rams of Mt. Vernon.
