2nd Qtr Blitz for Ironmen

Dolton - There was magical feeling in the air Saturday afternoon as the Falcons not only hosted, by played in their schools first ever quarterfinal match up.

The Falcons forced Normal to go 3 and out on their first 2 possessions and while the Falcons lost the ball on a fumble on their first possession, Kory Williams (QB 5'8 170 sr.) scampered in for 6 on a 8 yard run, giving the Falcons an early lead. The touchdown was set up a player earlier on a huge 41 yard run by Chris Muhammad (RB 6'2 205 sr.).

But that magical feeling started to fade after the Ironmen's big 2nd quarter, where they put up 21 unanswered points.

The Ironmen (the 2005 6A Runner-up) are no strangers to playing in November and it showed as they remained calm and steady on their march to Champaign. Even with the first quarter ending with the upstart Falcons leading 6-0.

Omar Clayton (QB 6'1 190 sr.) would put the Ironmen on the board with a 9 yard run with 8:43 left in the half. Austin Davis (RB 5'11 195 jr.) scored again for the Ironmen on a 1 yard dive. This after the defense forced Thornridge to go 3 & out and Kennedy Freeman (RB 5'6 155 jr.) took a punt return all the way back to the Falcon's 3 yard line.

Normal Community would round out the scoring as Andrew Hamer (TE 5'11 205 so.) hauled in a Clayton pass for a 25 yard TD reception. That TD was set up by an Austin Kull (LB 6'1 200 jr.) interception.

Another interception by Jake Detmers (LB 6'4 210 sr.) with 2:09 left in the half, limited the Falcons offense and set up the Ironmen for a possible 4th score that would end with an interception by Muhammad on a fake field goal attempt by Normal.

Normal's Detmers & Thronridge's Muhammad would both get one more interception in the 2nd half, but unlike Normal, Thronridge would be shut out of the endzone.

Dan Moore (RB 6'1 180 jr.) would score the last 2 touchdowns for the Ironmen, as he went in for runs of 3 & 2 yards in the 4th quarter, bringing the final score to 35-6 for Normal Community.
