Week #5 vs. Flora (0-5)
9/21/2001

Waiting for the Offense to Explode? It Finally Did

Carmi (Evers Field)- On Thursday night at the annual Homecoming prep rally, Coach Kurt Simon told the students and local fans, " I have three goals for tomorrow's game, I want to win, No injuries & I want the offense to explode." Well, he got his wishes.

Before a packed house (3,200) at Evers field the Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders as they whipped up on the winless Flora Wolves, 46-12. Quarterback - Kevin Wolffe lead the way with 6 for 10 and 145 yards and two touchdowns passes to Running back - Steven Smith. Alex Puckett had three catches for 45 yards and intercepted two of Flora's passes returning one for a Touchdown. Joe Knight also picked off a pass.

The Bulldogs held the hapless Wolves to only one first down and scoreless well into the fourth quarter. With most of the starters on the bench the Wolves scored both touchdowns in the last five minutes and finished the game with only 152 total yards to the Bulldogs 525. Brandon Pringle finished the game with 55 rushing yards and passed Benny Bradley for fourth on the all time career rushing list. The Senior wingback now has 1,993 and trails the all time leader Jeff Haley by 174 yards with four games remaining.

Before the game the band played a musical tribute to those lost and missing in New York City, Washington and outside Pittsburgh. A large 100 X 80 foot American Flag was carried on the field by the members of the undefeated 1975 NEC Champions and ISHA Playoff team. Senior Cheerleader Lacey Kosikowski was crowded Homecoming Queen at half-time by retiring Queen, Anna Ackerman now a freshman at the University of Illinois. over 800 alumni signed the guest book before the game and it is believed to be the most that has ever retuned for Homecoming.

Bulldogs host Salem next week in a key NEC Battle. Both with a 2-0 NEC records joining Mt. Carmel tied for the conference lead.
