Hockaday Helps Bring Home a Championship

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - Luke Hockaday and the Trojans finally brought home a championship trophy for Maroa-Forsyth this morning. This was Hockaday's last game so it couldn't have been a game too soon.

Big hopes were pinned on Hockaday and the rest of the team his junior year, but a tight game with St. Teresa in 2005 ended the title hunt for Hockaday and company. Some thought that game could have been the first of back-to-back titles.

The Tigers, playing in their school's first title game ever, were holding on with a 14-14 tie going into the half. Westville would be counting on their main offensive weapons in junior running back, Caleb Pratt (1887 yards rushing), and quarterback, Jacob Attutis (1496 yards passing, 21 TDs), to help bring home the school's first championship.

Westville was looking to have a slight advantage, with Pratt rushing just shy of 100 yards in the first half, as long as they could limit the turnovers to the two they already committed.

Both teams scored with their first possessions with scoring drives totaling about 16 seconds each. Luke Hockaday would connect with Robert Kreps for a 43 yard touchdown reception on the first play from scrimmage with 8:51 in the first.

Westville could work off 6 minutes on the clock in an 80 yard effort to put u their first 6 points as Caleb Pratt ran in for a 10 yard touchdown, shaking a defender before putting the burners on and going into the endzone untouched. A bad snap on the kick had Jordan Barney (RB/LB/K 6'1" 180lbs jr.) throwing a pass to lineman Nate James, Killing the play on a failed conversion.

Just 4 plays later, the Tigers watched a spectacular Pratt run end as the ball was stripped away from him and recovered by the Trojans. Jordan Ballard (OL/LB 5'10" 175lbs sr.) would recover a Hockaday fumble with 1:57 left in the half, giving the Trojans good
field position.

The tigers didn't have to worry about going into a hurry-up offense as Jordan Barney (RB/LB/K 6'1" 180lbs jr.) beat a defender as the Trojans bit on the play action to Pratt as Jacob Attutis (QB 6'1" 180lbs sr.) would connect with Barney for a 38 yard touchdown reception. Attutis would hit Barney again for the 2 point conversion that tied the game 14-14. Yet another drive in the game to end in a score in less than 10 seconds.

The Trojans would jump out to a 14 point lead in the third quarter as Shane Conaway (RB 5'9" 175 lbs sr.) ran in for a 7 yard touchdown. Hockaday hit Kreps on a 12 yard touchdaown pass which was called back on a holding penalty with 3:34 left in the 3rd. Kreps, however, would not be denied by catching another Hockaday pass and shking a defender at about the 7 yard line would run the ball in for a score; putting the Trojans up 28-14.

Westville put together a 12 play, 65 yard drive that ended with an Attutis run for 1 yard and a 2 point conversion pass from Attutis to Pratt to make the game 28-22 with 10:06 left in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans all but drove the nails in the coffin as Hockaday rushed and passed down field on a 10 play, 75 yard drive that took 4:46 off of the clock before Conaway dove in for a 1 yard TD. Tori Stepney would pick off an Attutis pass on Westville's next possesion and the Trojans would take another 2 minutes off of the clock as they ended a 4 play drive with Hockaday threading his third touchdown pass of the day (3 yards) through two defenders hitting Barnes as he fell to the orange ground of the University of Illinois' North endzone. Alex Chiligiris's PAT sailed through the uprights and the Trojans would go on to win their school's first state title in 3 tries. The final score was 43-22 over Westville.

Pratt would finish the game with 158 yards rushing and a TD; Attutis passed for 115 yards with a TD and 2 interceptions for Westville.

Hockaday went for 17 of 26 passes with 216 yards and three TDs; Kreps received two TDs and Conaway rushed for two TDs for Maroa-Forsyth
