Caravan Freeze Jones, Run Clock

Chicago (Gately Stadium) - On a cold night on the south side of Chicago, the Mt. Carmel Caravan were able to add a little extra chill to the air on defense, as they took down Edwardsville 27-7.

The Caravan defense stopped the Tigers from getting any type of offensive drive together for most of the entire night and while the Tigers defense didn't give up any big plays, they were unable to stop the brown jerseys from marching down the field on 4 out of 6 possessions.

The toughest of those 4 scoring drives would have to be the one the Caravan put together starting in the 3rd quarter.

With Edwardsville scoring their only touchdown of the game on a 9 yard run by E.J. Jones, on a drive that started deep in their own territory.

Mt. Carmel would take possession with 2:35 left in the 3rd and drive 80 yards over almost 9 minutes before Larry Dortch would punch the ball in for a 1 yard dive after the Tigers had stopped the Caravan on three previous plays just a few yards off the goal line.

This score would put the Caravan up 20-7 with 5:48.

Edwardsville started off their comeback hope at the 20 after a Scott Sarason kick off landed in the endzone for a touch back for the 3rd time on the night. The Tigers would only get 5 yards before turning the ball over on downs, leading to another Caravan, this time by Dominic Sulo from 2 yards out.

Edwardsville went to a pass offense as their last hope to comeback with a minute & eleven seconds left, but James Jefferies would pick off a Joseph Allaria pass with just seconds left in the game to seal the victory for the Caravan. Derek Sulo also had an interception for teh Caravan stopping a Tiger's drive taht had started at the 28 and was at the mt. Carmel 35 when it ended.

Dominic Sulo would finish the game with 3 rushing TDs for the game.
