Week 4 Preview By Brian Snow - RiceNet Announcer/Correspondent In 2003, the Crusaders leaned on their defense (sound familiar?) and forced three 4th quarter turnovers en route to a 13-3 win at Rice. Jerry Martin recorded 102 yards, one of the few times that the Caravan gave up a 100-plus yard ground game on defense. Also, the Caravan offense were held without a touchdown for the first time in a very long while. The Crusaders used this game to claim a share of the CCL Blue Division championship and surprised everybody with a run to the state semifinals. In 2004, this time on the road at Gately Stadium, the Crusaders repeated the feat by scoring a 10-7 win on the Gately turf. Scott Linn led the offensive charge with 124 yards and the lone Crusader touchdown, but defensive end Chuck Manthei put the game in the bank by intercepting a Dan Dagler pass with less than two minutes remaining. Rice used this game to make their run to the Prep Bowl Championship. The Caravan are coming off of an impressive win over the Providence Catholic Celtics by a count of 46-27 with Co-Captain Dominic Sulo leading the charge with 293 yards rushing and four scores. Twin brother Derek Sulo, also a co-captain, sliced through the Providence offensive front for 12 tackles and an interception. Among Dominic's four scoring runs was a 73-yard burst that put the Caravan up 27-3 at the time. But after Providence cut the lead to seven, Dominic struck again with another touchdown run and put the game away. The irresistable force meets the immovable object. The question is, which one - the Rice Defense or the Caravan offense - is which? Find out on Friday night
