Last Years Champ; Mt. Prospect (Prospect) Knights (12-2) Runner-up; Edwardsville (H.S.) Tigers (12-2)

2003 Title Game Date & Time; Nov. 29th 4pm

Favorites to win the title; Downers Grove (North), East St. Louis (Sr.) & Libertyville
Other Title Threats; McHenry , Mt. Prospect (Prospect) & Chicago (Morgan Park)
Sleeper teams: Wilmette (Loyola Academy),

Favorites to win the title;
Downers Grove (North) - QB/DB Tom Edwards is all you need to know when you watch the Trojans play. He just finds ways to beat you. While his supporting cast is most definitely the reason they are 9-0, he is the reason they are the front runners in the 7A title quest.

East St. Louis (Sr.) - The talk down south this year has been sounding like a bad flashback to the 1980's, but with the flyers steamrollering teams all season, even after losing their starting QB to injury, it's no wonder folks in ESL are thinking about the glory days of Bob Shannon's might Flyers & state championships. While two time 7A runner up Edwardsville (H.S.) is still in the mix this year, the flyers are looking to bring home the title for a big school back to the south for the first time since 1991. Sophomore RB Jaious Singleton has been putting up some big games all season & may give the Flyers the boost they need to win it all.

Libertyville - Has already faced 7 playoff teams this season. The only other team to face 7 teams & still be undefeated is top ranked 8A powerhouse Park Ridge (Maine South). The Wildcats are versatile team who's offense is as dangerous in the air as it is on the ground. Santino Panico's legs are one of the reasons they average 40 points a game. Those legs also help out in the defensive backfield where it's hard to get anything by him.

Other Title Threats;
McHenry - At 8-1, a double OT loss to Libertyville is their only blemish. Scooter McIntosh & Noel Figueroa in the backfield give opponents defenses two things to watch out for.

Mt. Prospect (Prospect) - Last year the 7A champs were 7-2 & they were overlooked. Be careful not to make that mistake if they're on your dance card to Champaign.

Chicago (Morgan Park) - The most impressive game you could have seen all year between two ranked teams, came from the performance of the Mustangs against Hubbard. They held the top ranked Greyhounds to a state record -60 yards total offense. This happened when head coach Lexie Spurlock switched his team to a Buddy Ryan style 4-6 defense & keyed on the weakness of Hubbard's special teams.

Sleeper teams:
Wilmette (Loyola Academy)- While the Ramblers didn't fair well versus playoff teams in the regular season. They were 1-3. Those games were all againstChicago Catholic (Blue)conference powerhouses. The only win out of the four was a 12-2 victory of 5A State ChampsNew Lenox (Providence). The Ramblers have also dedicated this season to fallen head coach John Hoerster, who died a week before the season started.
