Week #3 vs. Chicago (DeLaSalle) (2-1)
9/8/2006

Crusaders Grind out Tough Win over De La Salle

The now famous "Grinder Rules" that was developed by the World Champion White Sox do not just apply to baseball.  They also apply to football and the main one that applies here says "Grind it out....then Grind some more!"  No matter how easy at times the De La Salle Meteors moved downfield, the Brother Rice Crusaders found a way to answer.   Pat Gray answered the loudest as he bulled in from 2 yards out to give Rice a gutty 12-7 victory.

Quintus Johnson was the offensive star of the game with 20 carries for 115 yards including a key 25 yard run that set up the winning score.   Pat Garrity was all over the place as he subbed for an injured John Ingersoll midway through the second quarter and performed very admirably.  Garrity also picked up a key run on the winning drive as he converted a key third down try.   Garrity also picked off two passes on the evening, giving the Crusaders nine picks in three games.

Ingersoll got the party started with a six-yard scoring run and a 6-0 Crusader lead early in the second quarter.  It stayed that way until the first play of the final stanza when Dan Solis connected with Elliott Brown for a 22-yard score, giving the Meteors a 7-6 lead.  Rice was then intercepted by Solis on the next posession, but then forced a Meteor punt and got the ball back on the Meteor 47.

The Crusaders came alive and went to work as the big "Q" and PG (Pat Garrity) handled the bulk of the load to set up Gray's winning score from two yards out.  The defense did the rest and the Crusaders held on for the win before a full house.
